How hiring from outside the Common Travel Area works
The Isle of Man’s system is simpler than the UK’s in one important respect: employers don’t need a UK-style sponsor licence. Instead:
- You apply for a Confirmation of Employment (CoE) for each non-British/Irish worker you recruit, rather than holding a standing sponsor licence — there’s no licence fee
- You’ll need to complete a Sequential Labour Market Test — advertising the role locally before recruiting from overseas — as part of the application
- Worker Migrant visas carry minimum salary thresholds, and current application fees are aligned with UK pricing
- A dedicated Worker Migrant – Health and Care visa route exists for health and social care roles
- If you’re moving an existing employee from another branch of your business, the Intra-Company Transfer (ICT) Migrant visa is usually the better fit than a fresh Worker Migrant application
British and Irish citizens can live and work on the Island freely under the Common Travel Area, with no visa needed — for everyone else, one of the routes above will usually apply.
